Two molecules that are stereisomers of each other, but are NOT mirror images of each other
are called “diastereomers”. Cis and Trans alkenes are examples of diastereomers.
Typically, diastereomers are compounds with two or more stereogenic centers in which
some stereogenic centers have the same “handedness” and some have the opposite
handedness. Label the pairs of molecules below as either “Enantiomers”, “Diastereomers”,
or “Identical” (meso).
